Internal Core Basics & Skills

Internal Core Basic Skills

Internal Core Basics and Silk Reeling Course is a course that is a priority for any of the Internal Programs. Equipped with these basics and skills one will have a much more efficient and productive study of the internal art of focus. One can purchase the entire course with its 12 parts or one can purchase each part individually for more convenient access and study. Here is the list of items:Entire Course includes: Standing, Turning, Shifting, Stepping, Peng and Breathing. The silk reeling parts are Single Outer Circle, Single Inward Circle, Cloud Hands, Chasing Hands, Mirror hands and Open/Close Hands. The clip is 102 minutes all together.

Standing

Standing refers to the Alignment of the Body and how the weight sits downward. Standing is a process where you get some things right so that other things can happen. In some positions the body is unable to relax, so learning how to be straight and sit on the legs is a beginning.

Turning

Turning refers to the relationship between the hips and the waist. The hips stay in line with the feet as one learns to keep the kea open. The waist can turn more than the hips. This coordination in the unitary movement is what the study of turning is about. One may have to develop some flexibility in the waist in order to turn it and still be relaxed.

Peng

Peng is the body state of tension. The idea state is said to be stretched and relaxed. Not tense or limp. So learning this balance will take time. There is a body state that is best for circulation in internal practice and there is a body state that is best for martial art. Both have the characteristic of stretched and relaxed. Obviously the body state in combat would be a little heavier than in practice for optimum circulation.

Shifting

Shifting weight or the weight's center is very important in the basics. How to shift weight staying in the legs and learning how to sink (relax) in order to shift weight. Staying in the legs is one of the main internal skills to achieve. As one shifts the weight one must also learn to keep the torso very erect and upright.

Stepping

Stepping in the internal arts is all about building leg strength so the steps can be changeable. In slow motion you step lighter and the faster you go the weights center moves toward the center so the step is a little heavier. In general you don't want to step over 50% of your weight on the foot coming down. Stepping light takes good leg strength.

Breathing

Breathing is developed in order to get more air to come in so more air can go out. The middle of the body including the belly and dan dian learns to expand with both inhale and exhale as both natural and reverse breathing are used in training. One will learn to breath deep, soft and continuous in order to contribute to the degree of relaxation that needs to be present.

Silk Reeling Exercises

Single Outer Circle

Single Outer Circle is the first circle of Tai Chi. We define outer and inner as the direction the hand is moving when it is in the top half of the circle. So outer circle or Single Cloud Hands is when the hand is moving outward in the upper half of the circle. This is a lengthy clip on the details of the first circle.

Single Inward Circle

The second circle of Tai Chi is the inner circle. Sometimes this is called single hand reverse cloud hands. It is the reverse of the outer circle, but it is not a perfect opposite as there are particulars about how the arm moves in the inner circle.

Cloud Hands

Cloud Hands is when both hands are performing an outer circle but as one hand is high the other hand is low. When we say outer circle it means the arm is moving outward on the higher half of the circle. AS the circle descends it becomes an inner circle moving toward the body low. The arms are in sync with one hand up while the other is down. On this clip the double inward circle is taught as well which is the reverse cloud hands.

Chasing Hands

Chasing hands uses both an inner circle and outer circle at the same time. Hands remain about 8-10 inches apart. The hands remain at the same height as they circle.

Mirror Hands

Mirror hands is when you do two inwards at the same time and it looks like the arms are mirroring each other. They are high together and low together. Double outer mirror does the Outer circles which is the opposite as the inner.

Open and Close

Open and Close pattern is also one where you are using an inner and outer circle at the same time. The arms pull together and we will call it closing. Then they pull apart at the same time one hand going up and the other down. They synchronize while silk reeling.
